In 1856, 21-year-old apprentice Thomas Burberry, formerly a draper, launched his outfitter shop in Basingstoke, Hampshire, England, establishing a fashion empire. His store gained recognition as an emporium specializing in hard-wearing, cozy materials, and focused on designing outdoor apparel for both locals and visitors. In 1981, Burberry expanded into the fragrance industry, introducing its line of Burberry cologne for men, which immediately caused a sensation.
